Villa le Barone: cycling in Chianti

Tuscany and Chianti are ideal locations for cycling and biking fans. Villa le Barone, a countryside hotel in the heart of Chianti, is the perfect base from which to explore this marvelous region, its beautiful hamlets and small cities, following the cycling and biking itineraries we have prepared for our guests.

Cycling fans, be they amateurs, experts or professionals, be they road cyclists, bikers or mountain cyclists, will love Tuscany and Chianti. Located between the provinces of Florence and Siena, the Chianti Region has always been considered the heart of Tuscany. An eventful history and a winemaking tradition that dates back to the thirteenth century have made this gorgeous area an ideal place for unusual biking or cycling journeys through vineyards, hills and small typical villages.

Road cycling is very popular in Tuscany, a hilly territory: the roads are often winding and steep, which gives one the occasion to stop, admire the wonderful landscape, take a picture, or visit one of the small hamlets along the road. It is also wonderful, after a climb, to engage in a magnificent slope… Also, nowadays, electric bikes can be of significant help! There are plenty of road cycling possibilities around Villa le Barone close to Greve in Chianti and we have prepared itineraries for our cycling guests. We can also rent for them nice bikes of different types that will be delivered at the hotel.

“l’Eroica”: a race on dirt roads in Chianti

Mountain biking, through gravelly roads and trails, will take you to remote and quiet places of the Chianti region, enabling you to enjoy the beautiful Tuscan scenery, with its vineyards, olive groves and wonderful “podere” (farmhouse). Villa le Barone has two mountain bikes that it loans free of charge and mountain bikes itineraries going for example through Volpaia or Lamole are also available.

Each year, Chianti is the home of many cycling events, in particular the famous Eroica, the amateur race on Chianti’ s dirt roads which is known all over the world. And on 15th may 2016, the 99th “Giro d’Italia” will go from Radda in Chianti to Greve in Chianti, passing through Panzano, very close to Villa le Barone!

After a good bike ride on roads or on trails, you will be happy to relax and drink a good glass of Chianti in the refined, comfortable and elegant atmosphere of Hotel Villa le Barone, a countryside historic hotel member of “Abitare la Storia” and “Historic Hotels of Europe” …
Happy road cycling and biking in Tuscany!
