Maremma: landscape around Vecchienna and Podere San Giuseppe

Tuscany still holds hidden gems and the Maremma territory is one of them: densely wooded, sparsely populated, away from tourist routes, full of fascinating landscapes, still unspoiled and close to the sea. To assist you in discovering this little known region, Villa le Barone offers you to stay in an old farmhouse, recently restored, in the heart of Maremma.

Maremma is a still little known part of Tuscany of an astounding beauty, with unspoiled nature and rich fauna and flora of the Mediterranean maquis. It is located in the heart of the Metalliferous Mountains, the mines of which (iron, copper, lead, zinc, silver, mercury, tin…) have been exploited by the Etruscans and the Romans in the past and were still in service early in the 20th century. Maremma also features amazing geothermal manifestations, with “fumaroles”, hot springs, vapors spouting off the ground. The “Parco delle Biancane” in Monterotondo Marittimo is a perfect place to discover this universe which is said to have been an inspiration for the description of hell in Dante’s Divine Comedy. Sasso Pisano offers the possibility of bathing in modern natural hot springs… while the Etruscans and Romans had sacred thermal baths “Il Bagnone” just nearby.
