Tuscany still holds hidden gems and the Maremma territory is one of them: densely wooded, sparsely populated, away from tourist routes, full of fascinating landscapes, still unspoiled and close to the sea. To assist you in discovering this little known region, Villa le Barone offers you to stay in an old farmhouse, recently restored, in the heart of Maremma.
Maremma is a still little known part of Tuscany of an astounding beauty, with unspoiled nature and rich fauna and flora of the Mediterranean maquis. It is located in the heart of the Metalliferous Mountains, the mines of which (iron, copper, lead, zinc, silver, mercury, tin…) have been exploited by the Etruscans and the Romans in the past and were still in service early in the 20th century. Maremma also features amazing geothermal manifestations, with “fumaroles”, hot springs, vapors spouting off the ground. The “Parco delle Biancane” in Monterotondo Marittimo is a perfect place to discover this universe which is said to have been an inspiration for the description of hell in Dante’s Divine Comedy. Sasso Pisano offers the possibility of bathing in modern natural hot springs… while the Etruscans and Romans had sacred thermal baths “Il Bagnone” just nearby.
Villa le Barone offers you the opportunity to live in the heart of Maremma in a beautifully restored very large farmhouse, “Podere San Giuseppe” part of the “Vecchienna” estate, located between Monterotondo Marittimo and Sasso Pisano. It is perched on a hill surrounded by beautiful landscapes and just 40 minutes away from the sea (Baratti, San Vincenzo). Recently restored with seven large bedrooms and all modern comfort, Podere San Giuseppe can be split in two houses, each with large kitchen dining room, living room and large shaded terraces to have breakfast or dinner. The views from those terraces are stunning, with marvelous sunsets and, in the distance, the island of Elba (Day excursions to the island of Elba are possible). Eight people can stay in one of the apartments and six in the other. The possibilities for hiking, cycling, visits to small towns of art as Massa Marittima, Volterra, Popolonia… are immense. There is also a swimming pool, beautifully situated near the forest.
