Watercolor painting in Chianti

Villa le Barone Jean François Grillard holds a painting workshop

Watercolor painting in Chianti combines the pleasure of painting together with a wonderful stay in one of the most beautiful regions of Italy. This is why many Guests are coming at Villa le Barone to practice watercolor painting.

Watercolor painting is a wonderful activity that brings many rewards. It can give life to the atmosphere of a landscape, showcase typical architecture, translate the magic of color, reveal shadows and lights while creating the very special memory of a good moment in life.

Composing a landscape, selecting the most important elements that form it, playing with colors is fundamental for aquarellists. Intimately tied to the seasons, trees are fascinating subjects for landscaping. In spring and summer, trees are offering a wide range of greens; in autumn, warm tones such as yellow-orange are predominant. Watercolor painters will find all these elements in the landscape of the Chianti hills as they can be admired from the terraces and gardens of Villa le Barone.  The vineyards are particularly beautiful and colorful in autumn, as well as the vine that covers the Villa le  Barone.

Villa le Barone : Impression of Tuscany by Crista Friedl

Floral compositions are also one of the most popular genres in the history of painting. Poppies in the fields of Tuscany were wonderful subjects for watercolor painters who came to Villa le Barone in springtime, but artists also find throughout  the year many other floral subjects with garden flowers – roses, dahlias, iris- whether in flowerbeds or in the bouquets that Guests find in their room upon arrival.

We received many watercolor artists at Villa le Barone and we regret not to be able to mention them all!   Some have brought their students several times to Villa le Barone and intend to give others courses and  workshops, as for example  Jean François Grillard from France or Jann Pollard from the USA. Very recently Crista Friedl, a recent host, painted various watercolors  reflecting  her impressions of Tuscany.
Numerous watercolors, pastels or oils made by our guests can be admired in the lounge of our “Fattoria”.

Come and paint with watercolors at Villa le Barone! You will combine the pleasure of drawing and painting, together with relaxation and a wonderful stay in one of the most beautiful regions of Italy!
